What a European Front Door Actually Is
A European front door is a design language, not a shipping address. Clean lines, narrow aluminum frames, large glass panels, flush surfaces and very little ornament. The door you're picturing, the one on the modern house down the street, is probably this. European style front doors get their look from proportion: the frame stays thin so the glass and the slab do the talking. Nothing is glued on. Nothing is pretending to be something else.
The second half of the term is the hardware standard. Multi-point locking, concealed hinges, tight gaskets, doors that close with one push and stay closed. That's the part North American buyers notice after a week of living with the door, not on the showroom floor. The National Fenestration Rating Council certifies energy performance for doors sold in the US, and our entrance doors carry an NFRC certificate, so the ratings on the label come from an independent body, not from us.

Narrow Sightlines
Thickened aluminum profiles stay impact-resistant and rust-proof while keeping the frame visually thin. The ultra-narrow casement door goes furthest, with a 2.2 mm sash and 1.3 mm frame. More glass, less metal, same structural job.
Thermal Break Build
A thermal break separates the inside face from the outside face, so the frame doesn't conduct cold straight into your hallway. Multi-cavity profiles and EPDM sealing strips close the gaps. This matters more than the frame color.
Multi-Point Locking
Locking points run up and down the leaf, not just at the handle. Add a hydraulic door closer and multiple sealing strips and the door sits quiet in the frame. Smart entry is optional: fingerprint, password, card, remote unlock, app control.
Glass That Earns Its Place
Laminated, Low-E, frosted and mirrored glass are all available. Laminated for safety and sound, Low-E for cold climates, frosted where you want light without a view in. Pick per opening, not per house.

European entry doors typically open outward, which surprises North American buyers. Outward swing keeps the weather seal pressed against the frame, saves interior floor space and makes screen doors awkward, which is why you rarely see both on the same house. Inward swing suits storm door setups and tight porches. Neither is better. The question is what your framing and your winter actually want. Why do European doors open outwards?
Outward swing presses the door leaf against its seals when wind hits it, which helps weather performance, and it frees up floor space inside. The trade-off is that a screen door doesn't pair well with it. Inward-opening versions exist too, and we build both. Choose based on your framing, porch depth and whether you want a screen.
What are the trends for front doors this year?
Narrower frames, more glass, and flush surfaces without applied trim. Pivot doors keep showing up on wide entries. On the hardware side, buyers ask for multi-point locking and smart entry, fingerprint or app-based, as a factory option rather than an aftermarket add-on. Dark finishes and wood-grain aluminum are holding steady.
